“Picture in My Mind - UnSilent Film Concert”

On March 1st, 2024, I found out I was selected for the UnSilent Film Concert, where I was supposed to write a score to a silent film. Previously, I was contacted by Jack Lacy to write a score for his silent film, so at the time I applied, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity that would motivate me to finish the score and so I could have live instruments playing it instead of software instruments.

On Saturday, March 30th, 2024, I conducted a group of NYU students from different majors (Jazz Instrumental Performance, String Studies, Music Technology, Concert Composition, and Screen Scoring, ) who played my piece for the film Picture in My Mind by Jack Lacy. It was a feat to finish the composition and recruit a group of 10 individuals over Spring Break, then write the parts out, coordinate a rehearsal, and then perform the piece. I am so grateful for everyone who came to support me!!! It was a lot of effort to organize and produce.

I eventually ended up booking studio spaces in the Dolan Recording Studio and Paulson 620 to create a studio recording of the piece. Ilana Hilley (the cellist) did an excellent job mixing the piece.

I am really proud that I was able to accomplish these goals.
